55 - 13 - 38 (2018 - ongoing) is a study of the public bronze statues in Brisbane and the surrounding suburbs. The photographs have been categorised in relevant groups with plaques transcribed.
Included bronze works featuring a person must either be based on a historical/fictional person or represent a group of people (El Emigrante) or an idea (Child Abuse Monument). Works representing people that do not include a humanoid figure have not been included (Gordon Fredericks as Milk Crate).
For the survey, the word ‘public’ is defined as a place easily accessible and open to any person during the day. Works that are not easily accessible but have been included are Queen Elizabeth II and Buffering (Horse) Eagle Farm Racetrack, both works are yet to be photographed. Bronze works that are not currently included are inside of buildings and in private areas, also for the current scope of the project bronze works located on public and private school grounds have been excluded.
Bronze animals have been included where they either appear alongside a bronze human or a bronze statue is wholly dedicated to that animal. Works such as Platypus Loveseat and the Bronze Canoe have not been included as neither a human nor animal is the main idea for the work. Works solely based on animals must appear realistic in size and appearance except where impossible to be replicated in bronze as with Native Stingless Bee.
Known statues that have yet to be photographed are Queen Elizabeth II, Buffering (Horse) and Laura Geitz.
